Giralda is the name given to the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria in the city of Seville. The lower two thirds of the tower corresponds to the minaret of the mosque in the old city, at the end of the twelfth century, while the upper third is the part added to house the Christian bells.
La Giralda, with 97.5 m in height, was once the highest tower in Europe and now is teh tallest building in the city, and the most famous of all Andalusia. On December 29, 1928 was declared a National Heritage and in 1987 joined the list of World Heritage.
