Huesca, Huesca, España

In Islamic period, the city was targeted by several sieges of Carolingian armies and was the centre of some riots against the emirate of Cordoba. During the Xth century, ´Wasca´ became the capital of a large semi-independent kingdom ranging from Lerida to Tudela . Due to incursions by troops of Charlemagne, the Caliphate of Cordoba decided in 874 AD to build  a defensive wall. This is the wall that we can still admire today and which forms part of the tower that we see in the foreground. This tower is one of the defensive towers that were distributed by the perimeter of the wall every 22 meters. At present this is the only remianing tower.
